The Badaling section of the Great Wall is 42 miles / 70 kilometres northwest of Beijing. Once you get outside the city and onto the expressway, the trip to Badaling is quick. The map below is provided by Odyssey Publications and can be found in their Beijing and Shanghai Guide.
It can get a bit touristy on the Badaling section as this is close to Beijing and relatively easy. There are lots of stalls selling "I walked the wall" t-shirts,
hats and paraphanalia. Plenty of food and even Kentucky Fried Chicken has opened a franchise at the wall! If you want to see more a rugged and less touristy section
of the wall go to Simatai.
